The Heart Of Amanda Rose Brasgot: Chapter 2

The Heart Of Amanda Rose Brasgot: Chapter 2

Chapter 2
Amanda's Dress
Amanda woke up in the morning to the sunlight streaming through her curtains! She yawned and settled more comfortably down in her pillows.  Her maid LuLu came into the room.  She was a tiny girl of 24 years and very sweet! LuLu walked over to the bed, and nudging her said “Come on, Miss Amanda, get up or I will not help you with your hair.” Amanda gasped and sprung out of bed saying “Oh dear! “That mustn’t happen for even through I know how to do my hair, it is such a bother at times!” Quickly she sorted through her wardrobe of clothes and finally located a plain pale pink gown which she hurriedly put on and soon was seated at the mirror where LuLu waited and started piling her hair on her head, sticking pins in where ever she saw fit.  Amanda squirmed and howled as she was poked by a sharp pin.
Finally Amanda escaped downstairs to get breakfast. Thankfully it was a weekday so there were not family meals that day and she would not have to suffer through another boring talk! She trotted into the dining room where she found her Grandmere talking to the cook.  Seeing Amanda she walked over and said “Good morning darling, I hope you had a good sleep ....and the most wonderful news has come this morning!” She paused and Amanda said “Please Grandmere tell me!” Grandmere laughed and said “Beatrice and her family are coming back from New York and will arrive at lunch time.”  Amanda almost jumped for joy but knew Grandmere would not approve so she smiled, and hugging her Grandmere said, “Thank you Grandmere. I haven’t seen my cousins in 2 months.” and then trotted down to the kitchen where she asked for her breakfast.  She soon was sitting comfortably on the veranda eating eggs, bacon, biscuit  and orange juice, watching the lane where Beatrice's carriage would come.
Beatrice (I might change her later on)
Amanda ran down the stairway hoping her Mother wouldn’t she her.  She ran to the front door and down the front steps to where her Cousin Beatrize stood smiling as happy as ever.  The two girls embraced in a tight hug.  Beatriz finally let go and stood back and said in her usual humorous tone, “My dear Cousin you have grown prettier then ever!  Now who do I know that wants to marry?!”  Amanda laughed and said “Oh how I missed you Beatriz.  We will have such fun this summer!” Just then Beatriz’s twin brother Wesley came up beside her and said “Amanda, how is my beautifulest cousin?”  They both hugged and he added, poking Beatriz in  the ribs, “You will let me have fun with Amanda and not hoard her all to yourself, eh?” Beatriz, who was always annoyed with her brother said, “No, seeing as I have good manners, but I will not let you take her on adventures without me seeing as she is my best friend and you have no right.”  Thankfully Amanda’s Aunt Gloria stepped out of the carriage and put an end to their squabble.
Aunt Gloria
After promising Wesley a game of crochet on the lawn, Amanda  followed Beatriz up to her room to help her unpack.  Amanda was amazed when Beatriz led her to a room across the hall from Amanda’s.  When seeing Amanda’s shocked face, she said “I told Mother I would not eat cream cakes for a whole week if she would ask Grandmere for a room next to yours.” Beatriz said this with great pride in her voice, as everyone knew of Beatriz’s love for sweets and food, and though having a beautiful face, she was a little plump...a fact which her mother tried to hide to no end.   Amanda laughed and said “I don’t now how you and your mother have such a good relationship when your mother keeps trying to make you stop eating or stick you in a tight corset.  Why you are always bargaining to stop eating or wear a corset for the things you want” Beatriz laughed and said “We have an understanding, but let’s not talk about this.  What about you?” Amanda sighed and said “Oh everything is the same.” Beatriz sighed and put a comforting arm around Amanda saying, “Well that’s why you have me...and that family of yours doesn’t know what they are missing out on.”  Amanda smiled and said, “Yes, you’re right. I only wish Abigail and Isabelle could come.”  Beatriz clapped her hands together and said, “Oh just like old times!” Then sobering, she sat down and thought a moment, and after Amanda questioned her she said, “Maybe we could invite them!” I know how much the sisters love my mother” Amanda said. “Yes, But they live an hour and a half away and it is such a hard time packing for a 2 day visit or less. “Ahhh” interrupted Beatriz, “That’s why they will stay a whole month if need be, and if their mothers want to leave they can... and leave Abigail & Isabelle to us!” Amanda thought and said “It might work.  We will ask Grandmere and your mother tonight.”  Then linking arms the two girls trotted downstairs to the back lawn to help the nannies with the small children and play a few games of crochet.

The Heart of Amanda Rose Brasgot.

The Heart of Amanda Rose Brasgot.
By Marissa Ballenger

Chapter 1
Amanda ran down the giant stairway, her heels clicking gently on the marble floor. She talked softly to herself “I must be perfect or they will never approve”, she said, and then stopped in front of a mirror in the hall to examine herself. She was a pretty girl of fourteen with blonde hair the color of honey that hung in loose waves to her waist. She had her curls in a fancy up-do with some pearls strung in.  She wore a turquoise blue gown without a spot on it. She wore a pearl necklace and earrings and tiny pearls lined the seams along the dress. Lace lined the neckline and a pure white bow was arranged on her bustle. White heels were on her feet. She sighed at her reflection and said “something is missing, nothing must be missing.”  She looked down at the bouquet that had beautiful flowers and feathers arranged in a vase. Then exclaiming “That's it” she plucked a white feather from the bouquet and stuck it in her hair. She giggled at herself as she walked back and forth in front of the mirror.
Mrs. Marie Brasgot (Amanda's Mother)

She was doing this when a maid came. “Miss Amanda, your family has arrived!” Amanda commanded herself to be calm. Oh how she wished Beatriz was with her. Beatriz could always put her mind at rest. Wringing her hands she trotted to the parlor where her family would be ushered to once they got out of the carriage! She came to two oak doors and taking a quick breath, went in. A woman in a moss green dress turned to her. The woman's hair was the same color as Amanda's and her pretty face quite familiar.  “Amanda darling, how are you? Oh my, have you put on weight?”  Tears sprung to Amanda’s eyes and she tried her hardest to brush them away and said with a quick and polite curtsey, “Hello Mother.”  The woman gave a quick hug and then said, pointing to a girl sitting on the sofa fanning herself, “Eugenia has become even more beautiful after her trip to Paris, has she not?” Amanda’s heart ached to hear those words said about her but swallowing the lump in her throat she said,“Yes, Eugenia, did you meet any more suitable and nice suitors in Paris?” Eugenia’s beady eyes narrowed and her tight mouth looked like she had just sucked on a lemon as she said “Amanda, you haven't lost any less of your charm since we have been away I see...and to answer your childish question, "Yes,
Mr. Jeffrey Brasgot (Amanda's Father)
I did. I was surrounded, but of course I had to let them know that not any old boy can marry Eugenia Brasgot.”   She said this while standing and swaying her unattractive frame to her mother's side.   Amanda muttered under her breath “I quite doubt it.”  Her mother keyed in and said “Amanda, muttering is a horrible habit and you must stop it this instant. Don't you agree dear?”  Mrs. Brasgot turned to a large man looking out the window.  After a minute of silence Mrs. Brasgot hissed “I asked you a question, Jeffrey.” The man hearing her grunted and after waddling to her side said “Yes, yes, I agree it would be a poor investment.” Amanda tried to hide her laughter. Her father never changed. Even as much as he tried he could never keep up with her mother and knew he didn't hear a thing of her and her mother's conversation.

Amanda's Tree house

Her father was a large man who was handsome in his youth but after marrying had taken up constant eating and now was suffering from the effects.  Amanda waited for her father to say something to her but he didn't, so she sighed and said
“Where is William?” Her mother’s face brightened up and said “Oh dear, dear William... he had to stop in town for a while and will arrive this afternoon.” Amanda muttered to herself again “I cant wait!”  Amanda knew that wasn't the reason. William had to have a few drinks and a little gambling as was his habit.  Amanda gazed at her father who was in his own world again, and at her mother perching herself on a sofa rambling on about the weather, and at Eugenia fixing her neckline a little lower. No one would ever say  it around Eugenia, but Eugenia was VERY, VERY ugly.  She had hair the color of muddy water, and through she was only 19 her face and body were that of a much older woman and her personality even worse.   Amanda couldn't bear it a moment longer and excusing herself ran from the room not heeding her mother's warning “don't run Amanda - it is a horrible habit!”  She ran outside and past the garden and the orchard and ran along the ocean's edge until she came to a huge oak tree.  Climbing up the ladder, she went into a tree house, and falling into the tiny sofa she cried... her tears flowing faster each minute.  After an hour she climbed down and after washing her face with cool ocean water she headed to the

Brasgot mansion. She went up the servant's passage and to her room suite and hurriedly got ready for dinner.
Mrs. Grace Brasgot (Amanda's Grandmother)

When she came down to dinner the whole family was arriving and Amanda hurriedly searched for her name tag at the dining table.  She finally located it between her mother and her uncle Curtis who was a terrible bore and quite skinny! Amanda sat down and soon everyone was seated. Her Grandfather bowed his head in prayer  and mostly everyone did the same except a few members that included Amanda’s family! Amanda quickly bowed her head as she always did and then suffered through the meal as her Mother kept talking about how beautiful Eugenia was and how perfect William had been, and even Uncle Curtis started talking about his perfect vegetarian diet. Amanda was relieved when the meal was over. She was heading up to her room when her Grandmere stopped her and said "Come with me, dear." and led Amanda to her private parlor.  Sitting down she said "I am so sorry you have to go through this every year but I just want to tell you, "Your grandfather and I love you dearly and our home is always yours." Amanda hugged her grandmere and said "You can't help it, Grandmere.  I was the child my parents never wanted, but I would rather live with you and Grandfather in Brasgot Mansion then anything in the world."
